One of Eliane’s signature pieces and undoubtedly the most recognized, is Flowers for Hope. In a field of flowers, the tulips face different directions, much like the different paths on which life takes us. The painting was Jury Selected by the WGBH Art Committee and it now hangs in the lobby of The Davis Companies.
Eliane’s art is proudly displayed in private collections as well as corporate lobbies and offices including Boston Private Bank and Trust, Equity Office, Children’s Hospital Boston, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Joslin Center, New England Sinai Hospital, and the Wellesley Free Library.
Eliane’s inspiration to become an artist began with the drawings of her daughter. At the age of 8, Rachel drew to pass the time during her many medical appointments in 1992. One drawing was of three flowers—one purple, one yellow and one red with green stems. To the top right was a bright yellow sun.
After Rachel’s death the next year, Eliane copied and then painted Rachel’s masterpiece, as best she could. The painting hangs at Children’s Hospital Boston in her memory. An image of the painting became the logo for The Rachel Molly Markoff Foundation established by Eliane and her husband, Gary.
Painting Rachel’s drawing sparked Eliane’s artist talents. Initially, she focused on watercolors of flowers and landscapes and then, as her artistry intensified, she moved on to oils. Eliane found it therapeutic to see her art on the walls and lobbies of companies and hospitals, and in the homes of friends—old and new.
Eliane developed her unique artistic style that can best be described as a combination of impressionism and modernism.
Eliane joined the SOWA Artists Guild of Boston in 2008. Audrey, her daughter and twin sister to Rachel, is an artist whose passion is in mosaic and yarn designs.
Audrey’s work can also be seen in the studio.
